How to Care for Your Hair this Festive Season
Taking care of your hair needn’t cost the world or take a lot of time, it’s all about building up healthy habits to keep your hair in good condition, year-round. However, our hair suffers as seasons change, particularly with the harsh weather wreaking havoc on our locks. So, spend the winter months investing in the quality of your hair.
From overly hot showers, cranked up heaters at home or the office, blustery winds on our daily walks and over styling, our hair goes through it all in the festive season.
Here’s how to replenish your hair in time for Christmas:
· Brush your hair regularly, including your scalp, to lift build-up off your scalp that blocks the hair follicles preventing healthy growth.
· Avoid using hot water when washing your hair. Hot water can dehydrate the hair and scalp causing damage to the hair bonds. A warm shower will be much friendlier to the condition of your hair.
· Concentrate on washing your scalp, not your hair. It’s a common misconception that shampoo washes our hair, when in fact, it’s your scalp that needs washing and treating.
· Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair. Your hair can feel dry through winter but instead of pilling on the conditioner to counteract parched hair, only apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends. This avoids weighing your hair down, causing it to be lifeless and get greasy more quickly.
· Post-shower, wrap your wet hair in a micro-fibre towel or cotton t-shirt, rather than a bath towel to help prevent breakage.
· Add oils and leave-in conditioners to your hair after washing.
· Try weekly, or bi-weekly, conditioning masks to deeply nourish your hair.
· Take a break from the heat. As you spend more time at home, reduce the amount of exposure your hair gets to heat and styling products.
· Book in for a trim. Healthy hair has regular trims to cut off dead and split ends. We’d love to have you in for a pre-Christmas cut!
