We all want healthy, glowing skin and hair with strong nails that don’t break, but are we doing everything we can to achieve peak condition?
Our experts have put together this handy guide on how to get healthy hair, glowing skin, and strong nails. It’s super easy to follow and focusses on getting the basics right so you can achieve the healthy, glowy look you’re always asking us about.
We see a lot of nails in the salon and know when someone isn’t looking after them as much as they should. Whilst a good shape and strong polish will hide your nails, it’s still important to strengthen the base so you can have strong nails under your beautiful manicure. Here are our top tips for nail growth:
Having a professional care for your nails will also encourage health; our nail technicians remove dead skin, and properly hydrate your nails and cuticles as part of your manicure. Enquire today about a manicure in Stowmarket.
We only carry a small selection of our favourite products in our Stowmarket salon so we have included a couple of useful links to items we recommend trying out.
It’s a common misconception that genetics is the reason for healthy looking hair. Whilst genetics can play a big role in the quality (and quantity) of your hair, achieving healthy hair isn’t solely down to what you were born with.
As well a good diet and being well hydrated, healthy hair starts at the scalp. Removing build up from the scalp ensures that sweat, skin and products don’t block the hair follicle, preventing it from being able to grow and reduces dryness, itching and dandruff on the scalp.
You could also try a clarifying shampoo to help maintain a balanced scalp. You should see a difference in the quality of your hair after just one wash.
For any hair product, opt for quality over value products; these cheaper alternatives usually contain harmful chemicals such as parabens, that can be drying and damaging to your hair long term.
Using the products correctly is another vital part of your healthy hair journey. Only use shampoo on your scalp and conditioner on your mid-lengths and ends. Using shampoo on the length of your hair can contribute to dryness; whilst using conditioner on your scalp can make your hair feel heavy and greasy.
Protect your hair from heat damage by reducing the amount of styling tools you use and keeping your scalp and hair out of the sun. Read more about our tips for reducing sun damage to your hair in our expert guide how to protect your hair in summer heat.
When thinking of heat, also reduce the temperature of your shower to avoid hot water irritating your scalp. Rinsing with cold water also helps to boost shine and maintain healthy hair.
Finally, change your pillowcase to a silk one to protect your hair cuticles and reducing the friction between your hair and your pillowcase that occurs during the night, decreasing breakage.
Silk pillowcases are also great for skin too!
Silk pillow cases aren't something we currently stock but below are a few ones we recommend and use ourselves.
Silk pillowcases are a great upgrade when you’re looking to improve your skin. This is because silk absorbs less moisture than cotton, so your skincare routine will stay on your face, rather than be transferred to your pillow. This gentle material can also help fight the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles thanks to its smooth surface and reduced friction.
Having the right skincare routine for your skin type is the number one thing when it comes to your skin. Using too many products can compromise your skin barrier, lead to dehydrated and irritated skin and can even cause breakouts.
This is a basic skincare routine, stripped back to help you focus on improving the quality of your skin and boosting hydrating. Of course, if you want to include retinols, exfoliating acids, vitamin C – whatever your glow tonic of choice is – then add them in where appropriate.
The biggest key to unlocking making your skin glow is consistency, so keep showing up for yourself and lock in a routine that will give you the skin you deserve.
